‘Strong’ demand for PNG mud crabs, sea cucumber
In an interview with The National, One Solomon director Sahul Hameed described strong demand in Singapore for Papua New Guinea’s marine products, as the company expanded its sourcing of mud crabs and sea cucumber from the country.
The article reported that One Solomon manages the National Fisheries Authority’s seafood holding facility in Singapore as a strategic marketing and distribution partner, and imports frozen lobster, barramundi and mackerel as well as sea cucumber and live mud crabs, with shipments arriving in Singapore three times a week depending on the weather.
“The demand is still very high.”
Sahul Hameed, Director
Hameed noted that reliable supply, product quality and consistency are key for PNG products in the Singapore market, and that the growing demand gives PNG’s coastal communities and small-scale producers new opportunities to take part in the export trade.
